Making Space for Personal and Professional Change

Not every reason for seeing a psychologist begins with a crisis. You may want time to reflect on a change in direction, patterns that keep getting in the way or personal and professional pressures that have become difficult to untangle. At Ann Mitchell Psychologist, I offer personal development consultations on the Gold Coast with the conversation shaped around what has prompted you to come in.

I work directly with you and, drawing on my psychology and family therapy background, consider the personal, relationship or family context where it is relevant. If attending Mermaid Beach is difficult, you can also ask whether telehealth suits your circumstances. Reach out to me on (07) 5527 6585 to enquire.

Topics That May Be Explored

The focus is personal to you and may change over time. Topics can include:

  • Personal concerns, circumstances & patterns
  • Professional development & work-related situations
  • Stress & the context surrounding it
  • Interpersonal or professional conflict

Setting the Focus for Personal Development Sessions

I use the first appointment to understand what you would like to explore and the background that may be relevant.

If we decide to continue with further sessions, we can agree on a focus and revisit it as your circumstances or priorities change. Telehealth may also be available if an online appointment is more practical for you.

Medicare services are available and private health fund rebates may be available, depending on your circumstances. Please ask me about eligibility and arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can bring personal or professional concerns, stress, conflict, changing circumstances or patterns you have noticed and would like to understand more clearly. There is no fixed personal development program that you need to fit into. I will listen to what you want to explore and ask questions to understand the context. From there, we can agree on a useful focus for the conversation without promising a particular personal, workplace or relationship result.

It can be. Personal development may focus more on personal or professional issues you want to examine, while counselling may be the more relevant service when concerns such as depression or anxiety are the main reason for seeking support. There can also be overlap between the two. If you are not sure which page describes your situation best, you do not need to work it out alone before contacting me. We can clarify the purpose together.

Yes, if work or professional circumstances are part of what you would like to explore. You might want to talk about pressure, conflict, changing responsibilities or another situation that has been occupying your attention. I will focus on your specific circumstances rather than assuming there is one standard workplace issue or solution. If we arrange further appointments, we can keep reviewing what feels most relevant as your situation or priorities change.

We will begin with what has prompted you to make the appointment and what you would like to understand or discuss. I may ask about relevant background so I have enough context. If we decide to continue, we can agree on a focus together and revisit it when needed rather than following a rigid program. If attending in person is difficult, you can also ask whether telehealth is suitable for your circumstances.
